Studio Theater by Bruce Garrity
April 11 – June 6, 2025
The subject of the painter’s studio in art is a large one with a long history: Velazquez, Corot, Courbet, Matisse, Picasso, Giacometti, and Braque, to name only some of the most obvious painters to deal with the subject. The places where paintings are made, and how they are made in that space, have long fascinated both artists and audiences. These studio paintings encompass ideas about the artist’s workplace as an arena for conceptual and formal engagement, an artificial zone for the depiction of the body, a site for the accumulation and display of images, and a total aesthetic environment.
Opening Reception Tonight: Friday, April 11, 5 – 8 p.m.
