World Environment Day Cleanup & Hike

World Environmental Day Cleanup at Elk River

The High 5 Initiative will be going to one of our favorite places, Elk Neck State Park, to celebrate World Environmental Day with a cleanup. And since the day before is National Hike Day, we choose the Beaver Marsh Loop with the ranger so we could enjoy an organized hike after the beach area cleanup.

A hike around the marsh provides a great opportunity to see wildlife. The forest support deer, eagles, and squirrels amongst other animals. Beavers also have an active lodge in the middle of the marsh. This is a longer trail, and the waterfront portion is under water at high tide, so we will be trying to get over that portion during while the tide is low. We will be starting at the trailhead in the Rogues Harbor Area.

The address provided is to the main office at Elk Neck State Park. We will be meeting at Rogues Harbor, which is past the address provided on the left and marked with signs.

Volunteers will gain free access to all areas of the park and launch passes for those who bring kayaks for the water route. After you are done, enjoy trails and/or the beach location, which has a beach house to wash off and grill as well.

We will provide cleanup supplies. We will also have light snacks and water, though we do encourage you to bring your own in a refillable container.

Please do not attend if you have been sick, exposed to anyone who has been sick, or have visited any hot spots during the 2 weeks prior to the cleanup event. We will be following all state and local restrictions and recommended CDC Guidelines.
