Member Spotlight: Cecil Dancenter

Cecil Dancenter provides dance classes in a positive and fun environment for teens, adults, and children as young as 18 months. Offering ballet, tap, jazz, modern, hip-hop, lyrical, contemporary and pilates, they house both a junior and a senior performing company. The goal is to promote confidence, self-esteem and build an appreciation of dance as an art form. Self-motivation, positive thinking and respect are emphasized while teachers help each student reach their greatest potential. They also offer a variety of levels for adults. These classes are taught in a friendly atmosphere where students can meet new people, get some exercise and have fun!

Starting in 1985 with two classes of eight students each, the Dancenter has now grown into two locations on Flint Drive in North East with three dance rooms and over 100 classes! There are 15 dance instructors and five support staff who are amazing.

The most challenging aspect of the business is making sure all of the many details are taken care of when performing for the community or at an outside venue. Months of planning go into each performance, and many volunteers are needed to ensure each show runs smoothly. Performing at nursing homes, libraires, schools and in parades is a great experience for the dance company members.

According to Tina Travers,”We have over 600 students and are very blessed to share the joy of dance in Cecil County. We are grateful for the support we have from the community, especially from Milburn Stone Theater, Elkton High School, The Dance Station, Cecil County Arts Council and Amorin Photography. We give God the glory for our success and are especially thankful for our outstanding staff and for our fantastic volunteers!”
